The Governor of Abia State, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu said his administration is drafting a master plan for Umuahia, Aba and Ohafia areas. The Governor stated that the master plan will help control flooding in the affected areas.
The Governor disclosed this during a special thanksgiving service on Sunday to mark the 31st anniversary of the creation of Abia State held at Saint Stephen's Anglican Cathedral Umuahia.
He said the work ahead is to rebuild Abia spiritually and noted that the leaders have roles to play to achieve the vision.
The Governor stated that the story of Nehemiah is giving him courage and thanked God for the peace in the state which churches in the state contributed, just as he promised to reconstruct faulks road Aba to standard.
Ikpeazu acknowledged that there are many works needed to do in the state, also pledged to deliver more projects in addition to Osisioma interchange, one hundred and fifty roads among others his administration has delivered.
His words"The Governor used the opportunity to inform Abians that by December, he would be commissioning the Garment Factory in Aba which , when added to ENASCO would make it two industries his administration will be delivering to the state. He equally informed that he would be remembered as the Governor that provided Abia with a 30 Year Long Term Development Plan, Osisioma Interchange, Master Plan for Aba,Umuahia and Ohafia among other projects when he leaves office". "He also promised to reconstruct the failed portions in faulks road Aba"
Speaking earlier on the topic, "Watchman Over The Land" drawn from Ezekiel chapter 33 verse 7, the Bishop of Anglican Diocese of Umuahia, Right Reverend Geoffrey Ibeabuchi noted that every leader in the state is a watchman over his followers. Bishop Ibeabuchi pointed out that in every generation, God has always appointed watchmen who have responsibilities.
The clergy stated that Nigeria is in terrible condition because of terrible watchmen as recorded in Isaiah chapter 56, verse 10 to 12.
Bishop Geoffrey Ibeabuchi further identified greed as one of the problems of Nigeria where some leaders only care for themselves.
While lambasting state contractors who are doing substandard jobs, especially faulks road Aba, Ibeabuchi wondered why the contractor did a shady job and also frowned over public officers for their selfishness attitude and quest to acquire things made for the less privileged in the society.
He therefore urged Abians and Nigerians to watch and pray, as depending only on God, if not, tomorrow may not get better.
Meanwhile the secretary to Abia state government, Barrister Chris Ezem read the Bible passage taken from Ezekiel chapter 33 verse 1 to 9 and 30 to the end, while Governor Okezie Ikpeazu read the second Bible text drawn from Revelation chapter 22 verse 7 to 15.
