Abia First Lady Receives Commendations as NCWS Commission's Secretariat


The secretariat of the National Council of Women Societies, NCWS located at Ubakala express way has been commissioned by governor Okezie Ikpeazu.
Performing the ceremony, Governor Ikpeazu represented by secretary to Abia State government, Barrister Chris Ezem stated that the state has commissioned many projects recently as part of activities to mark her anniversary of 31t creation of the state.
According to him, it is not enough to occupy an office,   uuse the opportunity to thank his wife for her love for the less privileged and care for the women especially the vulnerable.
He charged the national council of women societies to use their office to bring other women societies and also unite the women. 

In her speech, the wife of Abia State Governor, Mrs Nkechi Ikpeazu said the construction of the secretariat is huge, an epoch making event and charged the chairman of Umuahia South LGA to assist to safeguard the secretariat.
She disclosed that she has enjoyed laudable support for the outgoing executive of the National Council of Women Societies and reminded the incoming executive the need to emulate the gesture. 

The National President of National Council of Women Societies, Hajiya Lami Lau expressed her joy for the commissioning of the secretariat and revealed that many states do not have their own secretariat.
She said the council has slated Mrs Nkechi Ikpeazu for an award because of her achievements and urged her not to relent in touching lives positively.
On her part, State President of the national council of women societies, lady Eunice Nwaigwe and Abia State commissioner for women affairs, Deaconess Rose Urenta Nna described the day as historic after twenty years of their existence in Abia. 

Mrs Nwaigwe maintained that their greatest challenge was office accommodation, which affected their coordination. Eunice and Urenta used the forum to solicit office equipment support including ICT.

Chairman of Umuahia South LGA, Chukwudi Benson Humphrey said the people of Umuahia South are happy to have the secretariat of the National Council of Women Societies in the area.

Benson promised to sustain his support to ensure women development and expressed happiness for hosting Mrs Nkechi Ikpeazu entourage at the Umuahia South council headquarters Apumiri Ubakala.
