Abia State director of National Orientation Agency NOA, Dame Ngozi Okechukwu says the agency is committed to ensuring free, fair, credible and peaceful elections in the forthcoming 2023 general elections.
Dame Okechukwu made the promise during the Zonal intervention/constituency Projects training of youths and women of Abia Central senatorial district on Voter Education on the theme " "Engaging Youth and Women on Effective Voter Participation and Peaceful Elections" which featured road walk within Umuahia in collaboration with other government agencies.
According to her, NOA Abia State will continue to use their available platforms, particularly the structure in the 17 LGAs to advance continuous voter education because informed and responsible voters will help safeguard the electoral integrity and its credibility. with sufficient education, as well make it easier to eliminate abuses such as vote buying, rigging and thuggery.
Dame Ngozi Okechukwu added that NOA will continue to partner with relevant stakeholders in faith-based organisations, traditional institutions, opinion moulders and community leaders, women organisations, organised labour, youth/students organisations, nongovernmental organisations, security agencies, media and of course, INEC.
She maintained that NOA Abia State is committed to an electoral process that will produce authentic, exemplary leaders who can ensure the transformation and sovereignty of the nation if elected and urged all Abians to collect their permanent voter cards.
Contributing, the director general of Abia State orientation agency, Mr Godwin Adindu noted that innovation captured in the new electoral act does not give room for rigging, therefore, he promised to join NOA to move into the streets to educate people on what they need to avert void votes.
In his speech, the INEC staff in charge voter education, Mrs Jim Rebecca represented by the head unit, voter education Mr Okere Kelechi thanked NOA for starting on time to sensitive people and added that people can only be called electorate when they have their PVCs.
He however advised Nigerians not to sell their votes to regret tomorrow, emphasizing that the bio modial machine dose not give room for manipulations during election.
The road show to sensitive Abians on voters education attracted the presence of representatives from federal road safety corps and Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps.
